Menswear Project
The theme of this course was to design an outfit inspired by a cultural icon. I chose to focus on Willy Wonka; specifically his childhood. My design was inspired by the headgear his father built to prevent him from eating sweets. However, I chose to take this concept in a creative and empowering direction, rather than a restrictive one.
Additionally, I wanted to explore Wonka’s desire to become an adult. Therefore, I created a garment that he could grow into.
The garment was primarily assembled using nuts and bolts, featuring modular sleeves and pockets. This design allows for the sleeves and pockets from the entire collection to be detached and reattached in various combinations, offering customization. Thus, wearers can opt for pants without back pockets or choose a jacket with one or two denim pockets, tailoring the look to their preference.
