PETRIFIED

PETRIFIED is a sculptural fashion project inspired by the myth of Medusa and the emotional themes embedded within it, including trauma, fear, power, transformation, and survival. Rather than portraying Medusa as a monster, the project reinterprets her as a complex figure suspended between beauty and threat, vulnerability and strength, protection and exposure. Her story becomes a metaphor for the experience of living under the gaze of others and for the ways in which fear can simultaneously wound, shape, and transform identity.
The work explores the relationship between the body and emotional transformation through sculptural silhouettes, material experimentation, and contrasting textures. Transparent layers, molded leather structures, hardened textiles, and three-dimensional elements interact with the body like a shifting second skin, simultaneously revealing and concealing, protecting and exposing. The garment becomes a space in which the body negotiates between the desire to hide and the need to be seen.
The development process was driven by extensive material research and the integration of traditional craftsmanship with contemporary technologies, including leather molding, resin treatments, textile manipulation, and SLA 3D printing. Through hands-on experimentation, forms emerged that appear suspended in time, capturing the moment when movement becomes stillness and soft materials transform into rigid sculptural structures.
The title, PETRIFIED, refers both to the state of paralysis caused by fear and to the act of petrification associated with the Medusa myth. Drawing from this dual meaning, the project investigates the tension between softness and rigidity, vulnerability and armor, movement and stillness. Across the five looks, the body appears at times trapped within sculptural forms and at others breaking free from them, creating a visual language that balances the organic and the artificial, control and release, trauma and growth.
